In fact, many users claim that using Roundup can cause serious health complications, including an increased risk of cancer. About Roundup
Roundup was introduced to the United States market as an herbicide in the 1970s, and has since become the world’s most popular weed killer. It is used on crops, gardens, schoolyards, parks, and several other types of landscaped areas by professionals and amateur gardeners alike. Roundup was originally created under the ownership of Monsanto, though the product is now owned by Bayer—the pharmaceutical giant. Since taking ownership of Roundup, Bayer has faced several serious lawsuits, some of which have resulted in multi-million dollar verdicts. Why is Roundup Dangerous?
The main ingredient in Roundup is glyphosate, a chemical that has since been linked to the development of several serious cancers, including non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Several well-respected scientific organizations have analyzed the properties of glyphosate in order to determine whether or not the product is dangerous to consume, inhale, or touch. When sprayed on crops, consumers may eat trace amounts of Roundup in their food, whereas gardeners or farm workers might come in direct contact with the chemical while gardening, or they may inhale it during the application process. In a study released in 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, which is affiliated with the World Health Organization, found that glyphosate is a Group2A agent, which makes it a probable carcinogen. The study found “sufficient evidence of cancer in experimental animals” from studies involving glyphosate, and also found evidence through the study of about 1,000 farm workers, gardeners, and other professionals who use glyphosate regularly. More recently, in 2019, the United States Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry created a toxicological profile for glyphosate, which listed several dangers associated with the substance, including the increased risk of cancer. Several other respected publications, including the International Journal of Epidemiology, Mutation Research, and Environmental Sciences Europe, have shared similar sentiments. Glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, is linked to several health risks, including:- Celiac Disease
- Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
- Sterility in men
- Endocrine system issues
- Kidney disease
- Colitis
- Heart disease
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Liver disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Pregnancy complications
- Birth defects
The Allegations Against Roundup
Thousands of lawsuits have been filed against Roundup manufacturers for the damages caused by this dangerous product. Several of the lawsuits claim that the manufacturer knew of the danger glyphosate posed to users, but continued to sell the product without adequate warnings of the associated health risks. The Roundup labels and marketing fails to convey the risk of cancer, and it misrepresents the health risks to both government agencies and the general public, resulting in several different types of damage. Our Firm Handles Cases Across The Nation
